Immokalee takes its name from the native Indians of Southwest Florida. It means "My Home". is the center of Collier County's vibrant agricultural industry. It has a population of around 25,000. It is built on a ridge making it one of highest locations in Southwest Florida (33 ft above sea level). On any given day you can go to the Farmer's Market and get a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables. NFL Hall of Fame Member Edgerrin James began his football career at Immokalee High School. He is just one of six players this rural community has sent to the NFL. The community has its own Airport. Florida has identified an area within the community to be a Enterprise zone. Lake Trafford, one of Florida's larger lakes lies on the west side of town. Within the lake are an estimated 3000 alligators. The Seminole Tribe opened a Seminole Casino in 2004 complete with a four star 100 room hotel.
